TGN members excited to be nominated for Alvargalan

Alvargalan is Skellefteå’s premier business awards night, where Skellefteå companies are recognised for their hard work and innovation over the previous year. This year’s ceremony, which takes place this Friday, January 19, will see no fewer than four TGN members nominated for awards. Let’s see who these companies are, what they do, and what they think about the Alvargalan awards.

iCross, maker of groundbreaking fly-fishing accessory.

Adam Westerman, CEO. Nominated for Newcomer of the Year.

TGN - What was your most memorable moment of 2017?
AW - When Arctic Business Incubator took me on to their program.

TGN - What would it mean to win the award?
AW - It would be very nice. It would feel like an extremely positive affirmation for all the work we’ve done and a strong signal that there are more people than just me who believe in this business idea.

TGN - What are your plans for 2018?
AW - It feels like it's when the work really starts. Visiting trade fairs, finding ambassadors and retailers, introducing ourselves to the market. A lot of work.

TGN - What has been the secret of your success?
AW - That I really love everything to do with fly fishing. It’s a passion. I want everything to be perceived as credible.

Innan, provider of VR safety training.

Nicklas Karlsson, CEO. Nominated for Most Innovative Company.

TGN - What was your most memorable moment of 2017?
NK - When my VR safety project was finished and I signed my first contract with an international client.

TGN - What would it mean to win the award?
NK - Just to be nominated for an Alvar award is huge, but if I won, it would be a proof that what I’m doing could have an real impact for safer working environments for generations to come.

TGN - What are your plans for 2018?
NK - There is a lot going on in 2018 already: we are developing a cloud-based safety monitoring system, where companies are able to check and monitor the level of safety awareness in their staff and contractors. This will be ready for market in Q3 2018. 2018 will be very exciting for me and my company.

TGN - What has been the secret of your success?
NK - Good question! First of all I don´t know if I consider myself a success yet. But what has taken me to where I am right now is a lot of work, amazing colleagues/help that I met in the uniquely collaborative environment of TGN, and a bit of luck. I think this recipe would be successful for many startups.

Printler, online photo art provider

Sven Burman, CEO. Nominated for Newcomer of the Year

TGN -  What was your most memorable moment of 2017?
SB - To be honest, I can’t pick out one ’standout’ moment from 2017 that beats everything else. But our summer PrintlerWalk (a four day tour in Skellefteå with four of Printlers’ photographers) in June was really nice! What I actually remember most from 2017 is just that I’ve been hard-working and dedicated.

TGN - What would it mean to win the award?
SB - It would mean a lot to me personally. Winning a local prize that people from my home town actually care about would mean more than winning some bigger international prize that no one knows about.

TGN - What are your plans for 2018?
SB - To keep growing internationally and to build an efficient workflow together with my colleagues. There are lots of opportunities out there to grasp and probably lots of pitfalls to avoid, too. It will be an exciting year!

TGN - What has been the secret of your success?
SB - I think that we came up with a really scalable idea with a product that was right on time for the market.

Sabina Consulting, events consultant

Sabina Jonsson, CEO. Nominated for Newcomer of the Year

TGN - What was your most memorable moment of 2017?
SJ - 2017 was a good year from many perspectives, many good things happened. I started my company in June which was a very special feeling. But I think my meeting with my partners in the international event company Connections and the first meeting event in beautiful Italy is the most memorable moment I can think of right now. We were in this fantastic environment and I met so many amazing people who became friends for life.

TGN - What would it mean to win the award?
SJ - It would mean loads of positive energy and joy, after all being an entrepreneur is also very much about having fun. I would use all this great energy for this upcoming year.

TGN - What are your plans for 2018?
SJ - We have lots of fun and interesting projects coming this year, which is good. But 2018 will also be the year when we work out how we are going to work in the long term, as in which projects will be our focus and what traps we will try to avoid. We  actually learnt quite a lot about what NOT to do during 2017.

TGN - What has been the secret of your success?
SJ - To be determined, a bit stubborn, loads of energy, allow myself to have fun and don’t take myself too seriously.
